Madison City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl was suspended by the Mayor of Madison for failing to count 193 ballots. She just ignored them, and didn’t tell the elections commission about them until six weeks after the election. Unaccountably, Witzel-Behl failed to initiate a probe as to why they weren’t counted immediately. She’s well-paid, too, $152k, which goes far in Madison, I imagine. Not surprisingly, four of the voters whose votes weren’t counted are suing for $175k each.

Here’s the fun part: I scanned eight articles, and Ms. Witzel-Behl’s political party is nowhere to be found. Not mentioned at all. Now…we can surmise that she maybe a smidge left-of-center given her City Clerkship of a college town. And the ninth article I read had the following goodies:

• She’s a member of the advisory of a left-of-center election administration group, the Center for Tech and Civic Life.
• She accepted grants to assist with Madison’s administration of the 2020 election, and received an additional $1.5 million of grants from CTCL after the city was designated a “Center of Election Excellence” by the left-of-center U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence
• She was subpoenad by Wisconsin State Senate Republicans because she didn’t allow state auditors to physically handle election records.
• She also opposed the right-leaning Thomas More Society’s challenge of the aforementioned election grants from CTCL. The TMS alleged they violated state laws by accepting grants to administer elections from CTCL.
• 2,000 duplicate ballots were sent by the Clerk’s Office in 2021. Congressman Thomas Tiffany was not pleased: Madison_Clerk_Duplicate_Ballots.pdf
