The jockeying for spots in the knockout stage is interesting. South Africa beat the South Koreans to vault into second in the group as the weakest team in the group (based on FIFA rankings). As a result, the Scots keep sliding down the third place rankings, and may lose out.

Austria and Germany colluded to allow Germany to win 1-0 and keep Algeria from advancing in 1982, which is why the third group stage matches must now be simultaneous.
