LegendKeymasterHow would a 15 dollar National min wage impact this?

LegendKeymasterCC: The URL still has the “bus” comment in it (in the post above).
I think that every news site has little psychological prods that they use to ensure their heavy users weigh in. For instance, the use of the word “unhinged” w/r/t the Trump administration was a CNN standby for a couple of years. There are probably plenty of others (angry, erratic, etc.) that were used during that era, many of which of course have a hint of truth. CNN does the same on racial issues as it has been a moneymaker for them for a long time.
Fox does this in spades with its articles. Little nudges that bring out either sincere whack job conservatives or intense racial feelings. A sympathetic view would be that the URL was written with only the knowledge of 27 people in the vehicle that was struck (now 25, I think ), and so it “must have been a bus.” A less sympathetic view is that somebody at Fox KNOWs if they call it a bus, it will elicit outrage from the anti-immigration crowd because “that wasn’t a BUS it was an SUV and look at how those coyotes pile people in.” In other words, it amplifies the absurdity of 25 people in an SUV by stating that it was a bus “mistakenly.”
But maybe I’m seeing ghosts and editorial staff aren’t smart enough to manipulate the mob that way. Personally I think it’s happening all the time.

LegendKeymasterInfluence peddling or just flat out bribing a judge? Seems more the latter.

LegendKeymasterI see it the same way, but there is no room for grace and understanding these days. It’s all about fomenting outrage.
Funny thing is he could have headed to DC and done nothing and nobody would have been bothered.
I’m impressed he flies commercial.

LegendKeymasterCareful. All the “weather isn’t climate” people who are in on the grift will soon be saying “see, we reduce greenhouse gasses via a pandemic and suddenly we have winter again.”
The science can’t be wrong. Literally, it works to their advantage no matter what happens. 🙂
oh, and since we haven’t addressed this lately, I’m no climate change denier. I am a skeptic as to how much of a role humans play, and as to how much of a role the u.s. plays in particular. I view it as one more wedge issue for the pols to dine out on.

LegendKeymasterI gotta tell you, I almost missed this link, and the article is pretty doggone brilliant.
The reality of the current political climate is that saying the wrong thing, even years ago, can endanger not only your reputation, but also your career and any future prospects. THAT’S the reason for the “deeply sorry” kinds of apologies. You might “never work in this town again” when it comes to some industries.
And that’s the reason they ring so hollow.
The formula laid out in this article is probably the exact formula put together by some crisis communications consultant 10 years ago in response to the first major offenses in the current cancel culture.
The funny thing about the people extracting these apologies is that they always focus on the lack of empathy of the “privileged” offending party. In destroying livelihoods and careers they betray the ultimate lack of empathy.
