I think there is some good and some bad happening.   Some of the USAID projects were wasteful, and others were dumb.   If we can get some alignment there it will return the leverage that was intended, and/or save some money.   Conversely this tariff stuff is darned distracting and wasteful in the near term, and potentially recessionary in the long-term.

I guess I would also like to make sure the executive branch does not over-step its bounds and stays in alignment with the other 2 branches.    That may be the most concerning possibility

THings will obviously continue to play out . . .

I am really conflicted on this.  Tariffs really help my company . . . and thus my pocketbook.   Yet I continue to believe that tariffs also delay investments in productivity generally, which is not good for US competitiveness in the long term.  I’ll be watching throughout this week while I contemplate all this!

I agree strongly with this.  Dilutes the award and the word “honor”.  I am lost at more than half of the list.

I believe Perot swung the election from Bush to Clinton.

I want both parties to be strong and offer compelling options.   So I know who I am pulling for, and it’s not our would-be ethics committee chair!

I don’t see this like 1980.   the 70’s had us emerging from Vietnam war which drove distortions in the economy as well as nixons failed wage/price controls.  Energy was a much bigger part of GDP,  and the various energy shocks also contributed to inflation.  Of course a similarity is a listless washington unable to set clear direction.  At any rate, I see our economy as significant less inflationary and more diverse than 1980.   That doesn’t mean we won’t have to do some more battles with inflation, though

my really simple answer:  I want these leaders to do a good job.  Incompetence unfortunately precludes that.   Thus I am happy with Pam Bondi replacing Gaetz.

On the topic of incompetence I ran across this article and hour ago

Is there room for an alternative take?   Biden does a bunch of “tough” actions like this now, giving Trump more room to negotiate?

I’ll predict a narrow Trump EC victory.  I will go further and predict massive whining from the left, but nothing of any legal or otherwise meaningful substance to truly contest the results.

I continue to believe that a confluence of factors make things ripe for more significant change starting in 2028:  the Trump/Maga effect, unsustainable deficits, a less stable world, etc.  feel like whoever wins there will be a lot of noise but no substantive decision making.  Of course, most predictions are wrong, starting with mine

I worry about unintended consequences in general, and capital flight in particular.

I actually think it is a good “strategy” for her to be as un-substantive as possible for as long as she can.   But good strategy for her does not mean good for democracy . . . this is definitely bad for democracy and informed voting.
