Mick1Participant4B is a movement that started in South Korea and has migrated to the U.S., particularly in the wake of Trump’s victory.
Is the 4B Movement’s Vision for Life Without Men the Next Political Protest? – POLITICO
In short, it means that women will not marry, bear children, have sex or date men. The inter-gender dynamics of South Korean society are much worse than that of America; the gender pay gap is incredibly wide, there’s a lot of violence against women, a lot of casually accepted misogyny. 4B is essentially a labor strike against men.
The way it is expressed in America is that a higher percentage of men voted for Trump (55% – 42%) than women (53% to 45% for Harris). So the gap’s noticeable, but not that wide. Still, a certain percentage of women want to punish men for voting the way they didn’t like, accentuated by the Dobbs decision and the fact that the states now vote on abortion.
At the same time, the American version of the 4B movement is colliding with a burgeoning man’s movement, which has taken hold across the board and has been building for quite a while.
Marriage rates have been on a long term decline. Reached an all-time low:

Marriage age is increasing:

I wonder about the future. My eldest is getting married next August (for the first and hopefully only) time. He’ll be 33. My 28 year old son broke up with his long-term girlfriend. Between economics, uncertainty and societal trends, I don’t see much marriage, dating, or children for Americans over the next generation.

johnnyo53ParticipantNo guy wants to bang these self selecting ugly dykes anyway. Look, they (females) 😉 start out in life having to compete for men, because XX are at 2X the birthrate of XYs. Good news for us XYs, if we outperform the gender specific mortality rates, is that are even greater odds in our favor as we age. There are so many single, divorced, or widowed ladies out there 40 years old and up you wouldn’t believe it. And most of them actually appreciate a man’s company.
“I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I

ParticipantOooo. Something that I sort of know about. I’m not Korean, but I have been following a pair of scandals that lead to the 4B movement. Oh, trigger warning. These scandals and sextortion explainers contain really disturbing descriptions (no graphic content, the host just describes what happens).
This involved a sex-trafficking and drugging ring.
This scandal involves drugging and filming porn, including underage girls. The images and videos were then traded on Telegram.
There are a few issues going on. First, widespread access to pornography has eroded male social skills / expectations in an otherwise conservative culture. Second, beauty expectations and plastic surgery, coupled with a culture that literally calls K-pop stars and K-drama stars “idols” has created unrealistic standards among the young. Third, their criminal justice / civil justice system allows for the rich and powerful to largely escape accountability.
Yes, there’s a major power imbalance among the genders / patriarchal preference in South Korean culture. But it’s the first and third factors that are driving the feminist revolt. It’s not quite the stakes from the Lysistrata, but South Korea needs to start enforcing its laws and putting offenders in prison. Of course, compared to women in the United States, the grievances of South Korean women are much more severe and worthy of a movement. We’ll see how effective it is.

There is not enough tequila in the universe for me to even think about going there. Ugh.

cardcrimsonParticipantAn old concept. Thousands of years old, by the way:

and more recently, a Broadway play (written by the cousin of a friend’s wife):
