Barack Obama criticized after saying he’s tired of being divided in Donald Trump’s America

That’s funny. Obama’s Democratic approval rating was 83% (on average) and the average Republican approval rating was 13%. That 70 point gap is the highest in history, including George W. Bush’s 61 point gap.

Obamacare passed without a single Repbulican vote in either Chamber, given that it was an extraordinary federal intrusion into personal decisions. Remember he said we could keep our doctors? I couldn’t, neither did most of our friends.

Obama interpreted controversial incidents strictly through a racial lens; e.g., Henry Louis Gates, Trayvon Martin, Ferguson & policing.

His political rhetoric was, simply, awesome in its ability to divide. Guess I’ll get back to my guns and religion clinging. Can’t remember if that was before or after he told Hispanic voters in the midterm that he punishes political “enemies” and rewards friends. After Boehner objected, Obama apologized…but not for the punishing part. Mr. Bring-the-country-together says he should have said “opponents” rather than “enemies.”

I used to think I built a successful business. President Obama helpfully reminded me in 2012 that “I didn’t build that.”

Obama created DACA to keep illegal aliens here. F those American citizens.

Obama saved Wall Street and said to hell with Main Street in the financial crisis.

His administration applied a contraceptive policy and in fact imposed progressive social policies even when they conflicted with deeply held religious convictions. But he sang “Amazing Grace” off-key, so I guess all is well.

And last, but certainly not least, the Pew Research Center interviewed Americans as to how politically divided the country was. 46% said it was divided when Obama took office in January, 2009. 86% said it was divided when Obama left office in January, 2017.

So President Obama caused an additional two in five people to say that the country was divided.

But he’s tired of being in Trump’s “divided” America. FWLIW, Pew asked Americans if they expected America to be more or less divided by 2050, once each during the presidential administrations since Obama. The results:

2018/Trump   65% expected more division, 26% expected less

2023/Biden    77% expected more division, 21% expected less

2026/Trump   66% expect more division, 33% expected less
