ParticipantI am willing to listen, but as you both point out, we need to solve for the long term.
By the way, with some whites, there could be an unintended consequence of having washed the sins off and not wanting to deal with racism anymore.

ParticipantCan’t argue and I sympathize with many of their arguments….
But, they shouldn’t overplay their hand.

ParticipantTC , I am as concerned about white people bring pissed at themselves as black people are passed at whites. The tail can’t wag the dog. Blacks are 14% of the population, but 15% plus 30% of whites is a big deal.

ParticipantMy point on exceptionalism is that net, net either one thinks this is an exceptional country or one thinks we should move towards social democracy. Your point to pin it on trump and the Rs is simplistic.

ParticipantWhy is the civil war a taboo subject?. How is that related to BLM. Who makes these decisions and why is anyone paying their salaries.

ParticipantI agree with you about the wisdom of the American people Lex. But the trend is downward away from exceptionalism and towards social democracy. Rs are consistently losing the popular vote. And even the electoral college is a stetch for them. See the latest polls. And even if Trump is re-elected it will be by the smallest margins in a dozen states. Unsustainable. But we will be dead.

ParticipantHe is doing what I expect any competent governor to do. Until, there is a cure/vaccine for this, social interactions will have to be titrated by phase ( think terrorism levels). The key will be not to overreact in either direction, which will make our politicians earn their living.
first and foremost, we protect the vulnerable.
secondly, we manage Phasing with an eye towards hospital capacity so that the healthcare systems don’t get overwhelmed.
thirdly, we test as much as we need to.
fourth, we social trace while respecting people’s privacy.
rinse repeat.

ParticipantSapolsky touches on the control issue in “ Behave”. In the sense of where one perceives they belong in the hierarchy.
you are right not just financial control but control over one’s life.gpn38
ParticipantControl. I am not being flippant but Several studies now shows that people who control their lives, or perceive that they control their lives are happier than their peers. My life is one big egg hunt for above mentioned control feeling.
Editorial note. I never doubted Spike’s redemption for beneath the rough exterior always existed a solid, god fearing, family loving man.June 25, 2020 at 4:10 pm in reply to: So What Do Y`All Think of This Community`s Philosophy and Action? #766gpn38
ParticipantBest of luck to them. What a great country we live in that such lunacy can exist. Still, the collective idiocy is staggering. And the reporter tried very hard to paint a noble picture of these morons. Stolen car v two young aa lives. That’s how the genius justifies himself.
Just don’t move to red states and bring your voting patterns along Ya hear.gpn38
ParticipantLike anyone cares.

ParticipantCorrectomundo TC. The public’s Attention span can’t handle this story. Hannity et al will complain as nauseoum then we will vote and if Biden wins this will be buried.

ParticipantAs I told all of my lib friends four years ago: Life will go on. The sun will rise. Our institutions will survive.
now with regards to VDH’s contention, I agree that the trend is inexorably downhill towards Social Democracy. Trump was a temporary slow down. Four more years will buy us even more time.gpn38
ParticipantGreat politics. Meat to the base. Might even help a couple of american software engineers.
