    my summary:

    • looked fundamentally sound overall
    • played with enthusiasm
    • Some great talent
    • little depth . . . every tweaked ankle is terrifying
    • I was hoping for more out of the running game
    • downfield pass defense may be the scariest dimension of our team this year . . . see depth comment above for terror augmentation

    Curious for JohnnyO’s take

    However . . .

When I cut through my frustrations with individual politicians, I continue to reach the conclusion that we are right to support Ukraine standing up to Russia, and if we can do this will improve European security and discourage CHinese aggression in Asia.  And there is always another hot-spot (or multiple) requiring focus in the future.

If I follow your drift, I like it:  society should (re-)commit to honesty and trust will rise.   I played hoops this morning and lightly deflected a ball just before it went out-of-bounds.  no one saw it except me, and I said so.  Later in the game 2 of us went for the ball and it went off my opponent.   He thought it was off me, but when I said, “no, it was off you last” he accepted it.  POliticians, take note!

from standpoint of my business, this makes sense.   Things have plateaued and evern started retreating both in terms of our supply costs and our sales pricing

I suspect that is tantamount to targeting a foreign leader, and we don’t want to open up that can of worms in general–opens us and allies up to same behavior down the road.

I am not particularly disturbed by the oil news in terms of impact the economy since energy and oil spending as % of GDP has dropped steadily over time.  Yes, it is inflationary, but less leverage than in past decades.  Also, higher pricing drives increased exploration and opens “marginal” production.

I definitely am disturbed by oil prices going up and benefitting certain authoritarian governments.

I find this upsetting–will fly my flag more.

one strange/ironic twist:   Republicans and Democrats seem to value money equally.

and now CS sold for a pittance.  ONe common thread, I believe:

“The real challenge is the rundown of the investment banking activities,” UBS Chief Executive Ralph Hamers said on a call with analysts Sunday evening.

Micro versus macro . . . from my perspective (my company and my industry) I am seeing job creation.

The spreads topic concerns me greatly.   Irrational exuberance or just money seeking some investment vehicle?  and does the answer to my question really matter in regards to possible significant downturn?

my counter-argument, based on economics, is that the reduction of existing workforce makes immigration necessary.  I just want it well structured, with more economic benefit than burden on our governmental services.

I am definitely interested on if anyone with expertise here can weigh in on if California population is truly shrinking or not given illegal immigration.  When I change my lens to the long-term, it brings up interesting economic questions as birthrates in the US and Mexico are both declining . . . and I”ll assume same for central america (open to be corrected there).   So at some point seems inevitable that things will turn to where population will truly shrink, and immigration pressures will subside.

I think China will continue to aggressively look for unconventional ways to out-maneuver the US . . . and try to think about different dimensions.   Stating the obvious, because of their economic heft they can do so more effectively than other states attempting same.  We can’t prepare to fight the last war!
