I will add my concern that the Venezuelan deportations have gone too far and been made in haste.   And I do agree that the lens of history will view them like the Japanese internments in WW2.   We shall see . . .

I don’t like the rhetoric nor the bluster and implied threats.   But . . .

with arctic seas becoming more ice-free, important to have the right presence in those geographies.   Great that we have Alaska, yet even that huge state may be insufficient.   It remains a long-term geopolitical imperative for the US to ensure we have strong allies, bases, and the right presence “up there”.  Acquisition of Greenland is one option, and hope hope this and other administrations are working with multiple governments on this.

she definitely has amazing instincts, and so yes, I am afraid of her.   I long for both parties presenting reasonable albeit distinct agendas.   Right now I am watching for which one will do this, an don’t see 2 parties with reasonable agendas on the horizon for years.   obviously opinion with many strongly disagreeing with me

Recessions do correct economic imbalances.  Most economists aren’t predicting one currently, but with 1st quarter GDP projected to contract and these deep debt piles, things could be ripe.

I think there is some good and some bad happening.   Some of the USAID projects were wasteful, and others were dumb.   If we can get some alignment there it will return the leverage that was intended, and/or save some money.   Conversely this tariff stuff is darned distracting and wasteful in the near term, and potentially recessionary in the long-term.

I guess I would also like to make sure the executive branch does not over-step its bounds and stays in alignment with the other 2 branches.    That may be the most concerning possibility

THings will obviously continue to play out . . .

I am really conflicted on this.  Tariffs really help my company . . . and thus my pocketbook.   Yet I continue to believe that tariffs also delay investments in productivity generally, which is not good for US competitiveness in the long term.  I’ll be watching throughout this week while I contemplate all this!

I agree strongly with this.  Dilutes the award and the word “honor”.  I am lost at more than half of the list.

I want both parties to be strong and offer compelling options.   So I know who I am pulling for, and it’s not our would-be ethics committee chair!

I don’t see this like 1980.   the 70’s had us emerging from Vietnam war which drove distortions in the economy as well as nixons failed wage/price controls.  Energy was a much bigger part of GDP,  and the various energy shocks also contributed to inflation.  Of course a similarity is a listless washington unable to set clear direction.  At any rate, I see our economy as significant less inflationary and more diverse than 1980.   That doesn’t mean we won’t have to do some more battles with inflation, though

my really simple answer:  I want these leaders to do a good job.  Incompetence unfortunately precludes that.   Thus I am happy with Pam Bondi replacing Gaetz.

Is there room for an alternative take?   Biden does a bunch of “tough” actions like this now, giving Trump more room to negotiate?

I’ll predict a narrow Trump EC victory.  I will go further and predict massive whining from the left, but nothing of any legal or otherwise meaningful substance to truly contest the results.
