I don’t really know what organizations are active. National guard is supposedly working to clear brush and the bucket trucks are everywhere near me as of today.

I live about 45 mins from Asheville NC. We got hit really hard.

it’s hard to see how bad this is going to be, because the mountains are completely cut off in a lot of cases.  Asheville is not a tiny city, it sits at the intersection of multiple interstate highways, and it’s basically inaccessible.

I don’t know the story on reservoirs, but I can tell you that rain events are heavily amplified in the blue ridge as I suspect they are in many mountain areas, and this storm was not only heavy rain but the winds generated a ton of debris.

you may be referring to the Lake Lure dam, which was near failure but I think has survived. It’s about 30 miles from our home.  I don’t know how much water they could have released from lake lure ahead of time. It’s not a huge lake.

We just had power come back on last night but there are many without power and gas lines everywhere.  It’s a disaster and we are still 10 miles from the foothills of the blue ridge.

the good news is no looting that I know of.

Edit:  this could easily be an October surprise in favor of Trump…  proof that Biden and Harris don’t give two shits about hillbilly white people.  I don’t think the GOP is strong enough to do it, and Trump will make a mess of it by making it us vs them racially.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. In general terms, republicans view Dems as dumb, Dems view republicans as evil, scary, horrifying, etc.

    it carries over to kids.

I am not moved by polls, but it’s amazing to me that the Democrats haven’t been skewered more for the Biden subterfuge. His decline is profound and absent the early debate they would still have the charade carrying on.

Harris herself has looked better in debate and interviews than I expected. Even the “word salad” moments she has had haven’t been as bad for non partisans. Right wing memers jumped on her closing statement with Oprah but it wasn’t as bad as they wanted it to be. Empty? Yes.  Incoherent? Not really.

but what do I know? I grew up in a middle class family.

Anyone who uses the covid crisis as evidence of what Trump will do loses the argument. It’s awful misdirection.  Trump made mistakes as a president down the stretch, but your post makes little sense.  He pressured the fed to lower rates to the tune of 7 rate raises prior to COVID.  He spent ridiculously on COVID while the entire Capitol agreed.  These are the half truths.

Trump’s biggest mistake as a leader, in my opinion, was buffooning his way to influencing the Georgia senate election in December 2020.  Trump gave the senate to the incoming administration while throwing his tantrum.  Jan 6 was a silly protest in comparison, because the senate numbers allowed passage of massive Biden spending on boondoggles.

So would it be fair to say that Trump’s opposition has demonstrated violent tendencies?

I mean, since we are splitting hairs about whether someone is a “Democrat” or not, let’s just call them the opposition.  Do you think Kamala’s opposition is equally violent?  It’s ok if you do, but what’s the evidence? Trump has been shot by one wild be assassin, and then had another lay in wait for him.

Hypothetically speaking, who do you think is physically safer right now:  Kamala walking through Boise without security or Trump walking through Berkeley without security?

Taylor swift is a high school dropout who sings the same songs over and over again while wearing a leotard for money. She dates an alcoholic meathead who similarly entertains with his body

Definitely where I go for political advice.

Im not even a Taylor hater, I just think when you boil it down entertainers are poor role models

    I’ll bite.

He has support because as implausible and outlandish and offensive his statements are, he’s still more in line with American values when it comes to policy than the other choice.

Kamala would have the government up your ass if she could do it. Trump wants you to be largely left alone, unless you are an outlaw.

It has long been forgotten that the economic progress under Trump was achieved against the backdrop of fed tightening.

it’s just like how the executive progress made on regulation and red tape was done despite all of DC screaming bloody murder about Trump “chaos.”

The only type of person who will stop the current train to oblivion is a totally unreasonable iconoclast.  It’s the kind of guy that pisses everybody off with stupid outlandish stories that happen to be true.

Trump was a train wreck.  Can’t help himself.

Kamala came off as more poised and articulate than expected.

    Neither answered a question.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kamala picks up more centrist votes. She simply looked better.

Trump as always is his own worst enemy.
