…a few years back, I was in Maui (the Cove at Kalama Beach in Kihei) and I wanted to go swimming. I was driving along the coastal road, and I caught a glimpse of a shark fin. I stopped, looked again…no shark.
I rented a surfboard and asked the kamaʻāina behind the counter where the sharks were. Convo went something like this: “You see that light green water in front of us? Then the light blue water past that? Then the dark blue water past that? See the gray water past that light blue water? That’s where the sharks are, because that’s where the fish are.”
Okay. I went surfing, no issues. The next morning, there was a photo of the shark on the beach I was frequenting. And now, a Hawaii lifeguard bought it surfing off Oahu…
