ParticipantShow her some love and send her this link. She can get a carrier status report that may tell which variants are effecting her mental health. But no COVID shots before she takes the test.

ParticipantI’m not a mental health expert but I can see that things are way off in a lot of places like Portland. So I’ll go to Occam’s Razor.
It’s not at all about a shortage of mental health professionals. In fact those people may make things worse. Human biology and errors in our wiring may be just sorting this out.

ParticipantIn 1950 the exemption for each child was $600. Most families had 2 or more children. A dollar in 1950 has inflated by 1131%. Average family income was $3300.
The 2022 CTC (Child Tax credit is maxed at $2000/child.

Participant“To give you an idea of the minimally acceptable level of social integration, the U. S. Army has essentially acknowledged that about 10% of the population are fundamentally unfit to do literally any job in the Army. And that’s 10%…the homeless, collectively, are about 1/20th that proportion.”
The military has used an IQ of 80 as the lowest legal threshold for military service based on their form of IQ test. It doesn’t mean they had many. However during the Vietnam War that changed due to the available monthly draft pool drying up. Politically toxic, Johnson would not drop student deferments for mostly white kids.
I’ll bet not many people have ever heard of Robert McNamara’s Project 100,000 to solve the problem. He was a lover of technology and believed that he could raise the intelligence of men through the use of video tapes. The effect was to make the IQ floor in the mid to low 70s. It was sold as part of Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty. The numbers drafted were around 350,000. A one way ticket to Vietnam as cannon fodder. The fictional Forrest Gump was deemed to have an IQ of 75.
As a draftee and “grunt” in the late 60s I had a first hand look. Some could only function at a minimal level. Could not speak coherently. Imagine putting a grenade in the hands of a guy with a 75 IQ. Or having him in your squad.
My guess is the HUD estimate is far short of what they say.

Participant
Yuma is getting crushed. 5 million migrants have crossed the border since Biden was elected President. Border city of Yuma is on the brink of collapse under ‘unprecedented’ migrant surge Predictably, the Republicans can’t agree on what to do about it. Early rift over immigration exposes House GOP’s tough path to consensus
Send in Boston Dynamics Atlas to help Yuma. It looks up to the task.

ParticipantThey could reform it if Congress consisted of Engineers, Financial people, Mathematicians, and physicists. People who understand complex data and are solution driven. Especially lots of cold blooded engineers.
I’d start putting these same people in our judiciary too. I don’t think you need to have a law degree to be on the Supreme Court either. As it is now it consists of partisans from Yale and Harvard law exclusively. So what’s the point of pretending that the law is in play.

Participant“The fall in the US currency has taken the dollar index from over 114 points in September to 101.53 by mid-morning on Wednesday in New York, its lowest point since May 31”
There’s a lot of selling pressure on the USD which has the same effect as the Chinese returning Treasuries.
It’s been reported that Xi met with Gulf oil countries at Davos and communicated his message of “renminbi invoicing”. Gulf oil going east plus renminbi pricing = dawn of petroyuan. At the same time Russia is considering demanding payment for their oil in gold and not the dollar. Birth of petrogold. The price of oil could be in part pegged to the price of gold. Russia is looking east going forward. I assume India will make their move away from the dollar at some point.
How this goes down no one knows but laws and regs will be changed to continue the status quo. No dollar crash. Too many dollars floating around and it takes time to dump them. We’ll just be hamstrung by debt and infrastructure erosion as the dollar declines. Our strength continues to be diversity, climate, and ESG until America 2.0 evolves. Our adversaries clearly have other plans.

Participant

McCarthy is like an expensive new car with a dead battery. He’s a really good rainmaker but I’d prefer General Sherman for now. So I give McCarthy a down vote but I think weasels in somehow. I give the 20 rogue Republicans an upvote for having some stones. In the end there is no such thing as bad publicity so it’s pretty good theater for the Republican Party. Like to see another 50 votes or so just for something to do until the NFL playoffs.
You want Sherman and we have McClellan. At this point, McCarthy will be no more effective as Speaker than Joe Biden is as President. It would serve the GOP right if 5 members joined with libs and elected Jeffries as speaker. McCarthy will be unable to lead. He should step aside.
McClellan. That’s pretty good.
I enjoyed the whole thing and wish McCarthy well.

ParticipantGood point. Every group has a carrying capacity to include ecological, economic and physical. Parts of the bone dry southwest have reached it already. Most people there don’t know it yet.
So why isn’t the population declining already? Immigration pressure partly driven by financial incentives – free stuff.
All seems kind of counter intuitive. If you look around some countries are beginning to figure it out and are slamming the door shut.

Participant“The fact the “political pros” are on the public payroll in executive agencies highlights the failure of our government. And it begs a question or two, Bill Barr, what say you? Who the hell was really running your DoJ? Ratcliff? CIA?”
Cui bono, rj. Who benefits?
Started with Eisenhower as best as I can see. He saw it and told us. I feel the same as you about Barr. Who the hell was he. And Durham?
Nothing makes sense. Who benefits other than The rule of Nobody. The essence of totalitarian government. You push people far enough and at some point you get the Thermidor.

Participant
It’s a tracking poll, released today. I think people are just so used to this administration that they aren’t mad anymore.
There’s an old tune written by Tom Petty and Bob Dylan titled “Jammin Me” in 2003. Dylan wrote the lyrics about a man “overwhelmed by the volume of disconnected news” generated in the Information Age. The theme being a man reeling from media assaults and shattered relationships and his strong desire to make sense of the world.
And to your post this is where we ended up. A dope running the country and nobody cares anymore.
