    Congrats.

You’re now retired and have no rules anymore.  Make sure you tell everyone. Eat when you’re hungry, sleep if your tied.  If you play golf and don’t like your lie, move the ball. Take a lot of liberties.

My point is that readers of brand magazines such as the Atlantic imagine that the authors know what they are talking about.   Put the articles on an anonymous blog and no one would care.  But with 500,000 subscribers and the name Atlantic, you get a long reach regardless of what you write. We’re a long way from Longfellow’s musings.

Right now the Atlantic’s Editor in Chief is Jeffrey Goldberg, with an Ivy pedigree from Penn.  Goldberg clearly approved the Atlantic hit piece by Yoni Applebaum (Columbia Univ) in 2019 calling for the Impeachment of President Trump.  The Atlantic is now owned by philanthropist Lorraine Powell Jobs (Stanford) who purchased it through her personal social change advocasy  foundation, The Emerson Collective.  The Emerson Collective now owns Amplify, Associated with News Corp as a curriculum assessment company.

It’s not clear what you are reading or why.

The Atlantic didn’t write the article.  A professional opinion writer named David Frum wrote it.  Former speech writer for Bush and McCain.   Harvard/Yale pedigree.  Wrote some of the underpinnings for the Iraq war.   A swamp creature  extrordinaire.  Who cares what he thinks?

The New Yorker writer has a name too.  28 year old Doreen St Felix.  Another opinionista who also writes for the New York Magazine and Lena Dunham’s blog.  Ivy pedigree.  Brown.    A swamp creature wannabe who also writes about GOOP.  She probably gets $5 a word.

    Who cares what she thinks?

I think the image of the officer with the knee on the neck = conviction. Knee on the neck is acceptable practice in some situations I’m told.  Probably not this one even if the perp was 6’8″.

A retired state cop I know who was a linebacker in college told me of what it can be like to try to control someone on drugs on a routine traffic violation.  If they have had enough narcotics in their system it may take as many of 5 officers just to cuff them.  That’s realville.  No one experiences that except police officers.

Her article captures alternate realities.  Don’t take her personally.  She’s told what to write and there’s an editor upstream who may have juiced her words.  There’s a reason the LA Times is losing money.

The LA Times Staff is spending a tremendous amount of time trying to generate revenue.  You have to keep the shareholders happy, especially owner and transplant specialist Patrick soon-Shiong.   And things are not going well.

Television critic Lorraine Ali’s hit piece is her job.  She used to be the music editor and music critic so she knows her beat.

    What looters and riots?

The louder they spoke of their honor, the faster we counted our spoons.

Agree. I don’t think companies do this lightly and without incentives from the destination state.

Suspect there might be a little more going on here.

Yes, yes, and yes.    And I have BRKA and have had BRKB in various accounts.  I confess.   But I’m not a Buttett worshiper, just an observer.

Taking even a relatively small position in Barrick is an eye opener given his long  history of hatred of the yellow metal.  You say that others made the call.  Legend say it’s just a value play. What’s next, Bitcoin?  Don’t forget what Warren buys others will follow.  Same idea as the Soros theory of reflexivity.  Up up and away.

If your going to tell me Barrick is a play against fiat policy that’s different.  That’s political and Buffett has become very political.  Oh by the way, Buffett wants to raise my taxes too.  That’s extremely political.

Maybe we can just take Buffett at his word in his own words.   “Gold is a way of going long against fear”…from that position, I guess his team is hedging against fear.  That’s what I think.

“Truly it is totally inaccurate and contradictory to imply, infer or state Buffet would ever bet against the long term prospects of the American economy.  Not in his DNA.  He DESPISES gold.”

The Gold Bug of Omha is betting on the collapse of the dollar.   That’s kind of anti American too.

Agree with everyone.  Even the prostitute angle.

No one has been talking about inflation but it’s coming.   When Powell says it’s ok.  Or maybe Powell has to check with Warren and Charlie first.

There is an exodus…of the well heeled.

I think an influx is more likely.   Ever been to big cities in Latin America?  Big cities are a magnet for the impoverished.

Assume that Progressives (Marxist Lites) will take control sooner or later.  You can also assume that there will be open borders. Where are you going to put them?  The answer is in cities with a lot of apartment vacancies and low rent housing.  400,000 people have left NYC so far.  Lots of cheap rentals now.

If you watch Bill DeBlasio you may think he is crazy by actively driving out his tax base.  He’s not and he’s taking a gamble that sooner or later New York can become Sao Paulo or Lagos Nigeria.   Much easier to control the population and the political structure.  He just needs a little time to do it.

Trump has no control but this is hardball politics (see Willie Horton).  Everyone knows what’s going on and team Trump to include Barr, would love to kick a little ass.  After what Trump was put through, I give everyone a pass on some ass kicking.

The Demo convention starts Monday the 17th ends Thurs 20th.  I’d say a good time to drop a few indictments would be between the 18th and the beginning of the Republican convention starting on the Monday the 24th.  Monday would be perfect.

    One can only dream.

Nice summary.  And a little chilling.  Add narcotics to the mix.  And now the lawless mobs.  The new Jacobins.  Why play a violent video game when you can go live with impunity?

Lately my mind keeps going back to the Chicago lawyer and his wife in front of their home, weapons in hand, as the mob threatens.  No law enforcement anywhere.  I’m not the only one based on conversations with friends.

I think one national candidate has given her tacit approval of the behavior of that mob.
