How many deaths? How many still have it? The point is that for these guys and 99.999% of people under 40, this is no worse than a bad cold. Herd immunity and be done with it. In California less than 2% of all residents have had Covid and .0003535% of the population has died from the disease (14,606) yet the state is shut down to hurt Trump, everyone else be damned. Is this pragmatic or just punitive?
Yes, exactly, but the blame will still come.  It will be “because of Trump.”  It’s just too easy.

Friend of a friend was planning a trip home to see older parents.  Her parents are worried so asked her to get a COVID test before visiting.  She, a twenty something with no symptoms, turned up positive.  She otherwise would have never been tested.  Methinks that a huge proportion of the younger population has already been through COVID, yet here we are…trying to scare the bejeesus out of them.

More than 75 players on the Texas Tech football team have had COVID.

LSU coach Orgeron says that most of his players have had it.

Just wait until Trump gets blamed for Wisconsin’s football team getting COVID.

These things are fun to watch.

I give a chuckle at the stream of foxnews links that tend to flow here, but at the same time, it’s fostering at least some dialogue on topics that don’t get dialogued enough.

I put the links to mother jones and others at the right to ensure people might click on a site that doesn’t fit with their worldview every now and then, but have no illusions about them being used much.

TC, how would you think about the veracity of someone who chooses merely to drive by and sling poo every now and then?  You want to mix it up?  Throw something thoughtful out there from the daily kos or something.  I’m sure it will get chewed on.

Have you seen the video of the Munoz killing?  To protest such a thing is to make mockery of protests against police brutality.   The guy literally charged the police officer with a knife.  The police officer ran away and then turned and shot the guy who was clearly in hot pursuit.

Sure, go ahead, discuss the tragedy of such an incident, but don’t vilify the police officer for killing a literal psycho with a knife.

Well, I used to think that a President could unwind any prior President’s unilateral actions, but DACA changed all that. Turns out that an executive order that the courts agree with is pretty hard to rescind.

So, I think the only thing that stands in Biden’s way is whether or not any of this is in the President’s power (I suspect Bahrain recognizing Israel is fairly independent) and whether any of it is ratified by congress.  Congressional ratification probably makes reneging harder.

Russians buying ads on facebook to influence the U.S. election is a tragedy of fantastic proportions.

A true blue billionaire New York yankee spending $100 million to influence a state election in a state where he does not reside is considered par for the course.

May we one day see both as an inappropriate manipulation of the electoral system.

Seems like a principled stand.  Or, just a political one. It will be played both ways.

I mean, it’s not every day a prosecutor resigns in protest because an investigation is asked to wrap too fast to uncover all the massive malfeasance and ensure it gets to the crooks at the top. They probably only have the goods on low level people and are making their way to the top, but will run out of time.  Her resignation proves that the conspiracy to obstruct Trump is so vast that the investigation won’t be deep enough if they wrap before the election.

It’s a tragedy and I can’t wait to read her book.

There is no right to safety in a constitutional sense.

No such thing as a natural right that others have to provide for you.

Is it true that states are sending out ballots unsolicited?  I heard trump say that yesterday.  If that is true, that is an awful precedent.

Rocky there won’t be any cheers. You know that.

Trump is being blamed down to the first death. It’s idiotic but it’s there.

While any death is tragic, people die all the time. In general we have government in place that can and does prevent unnecessary deaths via regulation and funding. But that apparatus is, in general, set up to follow the science and legislation model. It can take years to regulate against new risks. Think about seat belt laws. You probably grew up riding in cars without seatbelts. I grew up in cars with seatbelts that nobody used. My kids wouldn’t think of not wearing a seatbelt. Government mandates take time. It is not set up to respond to viral shocks across the nation.

We as a culture are a stubborn bunch. It’s what makes us good. Don’t tell us what to do. We will do it. That culture makes immediate compliance with any mandate unlikely.  We are rightfully suspicious of authority. It’s in our bones and our national identity.

But, of course it’s politically convenient to blame Trump for not solving the unsolvable; When, in fact, he was right in line with ordering shutdowns as things started to look real bad.

its simply hurricane katrina all over again. The Dems have tried every single way to pin blame on the administration. When, in fact, the administration’s perspectives have been more relevant to Main Street than the overt panic has been.  The reality is that if you live in a small town or small city, and have taken modest precautions, coronavirus isn’t your first risk factor for dying.  Falling probably still is.

I feel for you guys. It was 118 at a friend’s place in SoCal yesterday.

I was working in the Bay Area during the rolling blackouts of the early 2000. They blamed those on Enron. Wonder who gets the blame for these?

Gpn’s take is a good one.

the bar is so low for Biden right now, if he gets out of a debate with trump without completely losing his keys he will be coddled through the process.

it’s actually pretty funny and sad. The hatred for Trump the man has completely overwhelmed any actual discussion of policy issues or even putting forward a candidate who can. Right now all we have is a vote for trump or not for trump.

If trump doesn’t win, my hunch is he will love that. It’s good for the brand.

Meh. Have to admit he strikes me as a guy who, because he has no problem running his mouth at folks, could incite someone to a physical altercation.  surprised it would be a secret service agent.
