Ugh. At this point, I would rather the Fed increase interest rates, force some fiscal responsibility, and crash everything to reset the economy. Too much rate manipulation has created so many bubbles, so much bad debt, and stealth inflation that it may be time to start over.
Yes, there will be short term pain, but it will be better for the long term.

ParticipantTo be fair to Maher, he’s on HBO. Premium cable only is a different beast when it comes to ratings (and partially why the Gutfeld cable only number is so d—ing). But Seth Meyers is less political than the other three and still retaining most of Jimmy Fallon’s viewers (admittedly worse than Colbert or Kimmel).
I would like to see whether Bari Weiss will be successful when she takes over CBS News. If her more neutral approach is a success, maybe it will carry over into late night? I mean, the advertising opportunities are right there for the taking….

I’ll pull out the relevant thread posts below, but long story short, the Biden DOJ sued Texas re: majority minority districts, and lost. The Fifth Circuit found the current map unconstitutional, and an en banc court agreed.

If anything, existing districts were unconstitutional racial gerrymanders.

Texas law requires redrawing of maps if they are found unconstitutional. Hence why Texas is doing it now. Yes, Trump did ask them to do it, but Texas is required to do it by the courts and their laws.

Huh.

I mean, I thought the question was clear, and a concept, “transparency” does not draw up maps.

Yes, but if something is going to be shoved down our throats, or if someone is poisoned, we would generally like to know who is responsible.
Weird that they won’t just come out and say that a Democratic elections consultant, whose wife testified in favor of the map, and who was ranked number five in the most powerful couples in California, drew the map.

ParticipantAhh yes. Journalists.

Federalizing bad! Restaurant reservations down sharply year over year.

Oh. Restaurant Week DC started a week earlier last year.

Best apples to apples comparison, last day of Restaurant Week last year, first day this year, bookings up 30%.

ParticipantOh, now year over year stats matter. Blow out violent crime stats for four years, and then tout a one year drop? This talking point didn’t get any traction, so the media dropped it last week. Murders were not at a 30 year low. Per capita, they were still higher than every year before 2020.

The citizens of DC seem to be enjoying this, other than some white Boomer liberals who live in Virginia and Maryland.

It’s three days past the fascism talking point. Are you seeing widespread videos of police / National Guard brutality? No. Beyond the Subway sandwich throwing crowd, people are welcoming not having to worry about carjacking.

Interesting that Trump appointed EJ Antoni, who I have cited several times to replace the BLS Commissioner. Hopefully he has some good ideas on how to get better data.

ParticipantTo be clear, I was not happy about the misses that started five years ago, and I was not happy with the misses that were just announced (and I anticipate will be announced). Either something was wrong with the methodology (likely), and it needs to be updated / changed, or there is political manipulation going on (less likely, but possible).
Either way, something was deeply wrong at BLS; especially with regard to the GDP figures and inflation figures, which have the greatest effect on the Fed and therefore the lives of ordinary Americans. I don’t think that Trump is the right person to fix it, but I hope he appoints someone who can.
