ParticipantThe two party system has not always been polarizing. There are a host of reasons as to why now: Landslide districts, ideological segregation, 24/7 news stations with agendas, the ability to choose “news” through websites that simply feed your bias. Social media. Talk radio. The rise of opinion journalism. Gingrich telling Congress to spend more those at home and less in Washington. Increase in demonizing the opposition.
When Reagan passed his tax cut in ‘86 it received big support from Dems. It was brought to the House by Dan Rostenkowski. Obama and Trumps biggest legislative achievements passed on pure party line votes.

ParticipantI certainly remember Kent State. If we had a similar event this time all hell would have broken loose. It was one of my biggest concerns

Participant

I’d be impressed by your diligence Bob if you understood my point. I absolutely think the violence needs to stop. That’s the job of the mayor. He wants to sit there with his thumb up his bum – then let him take the blame. Sending in the Feds gives him cover. And it is EXACTLY what Antifa wants. Trump showed restraint in Seattle. Should have done the same in Portland.
Lex, you obviously missed my post on this. Trump gave instructions to a variety of Federal Law Enforcement agencies to protect federal buildings. He did not do so in Seattle because there was no perceived threat to federal buildings. Ted Wheeler has made it perfectly clear rioters suffer no consequences for destroying local businesses, iconic statues and the like. As mayor, shouldn’t Wheeler be held responsible for destruction of public and private property he is supposed to protect? (Remember, he heads the police department.) Trump is protecting what was paid for with YOUR federal tax dollars when Ted Wheeler won’t. I applaud that position.
Absolutely Wheeler should be held responsible. And while I get your (and Bobs) point, I just disagree. I think Antifa wants the Feds involved. Because they can be assured the Feds will get the blame. And their position is thus advanced.

ParticipantSending in the Feds wasnt the answer. If the Mayor won’t do anything so be it. By sending in the Feds, Trump gave the Mayor a gift. He can blame everything on the Feds. And any violence is just a reaction to the brutal tactics of the Feds. Another dunderheaded move by the Idiot in Chief.

ParticipantIt is. Larson is a terrific writer.

ParticipantI enjoyed the Good Liar. (Spoiler alert) I knew Mirren was conning McEwen, but the reason was a nice twist.
I liked Knives Out also. Not a great movie by any stretch. But fun.
What the heck is a Firestick GR?

ParticipantTouché. But of course Roscoe knows that. So does Biden. He made that clear in 1992. Although admittedly he may not remember…
FWIW, I thought what the GOP did vis-a-vis Garland was “wrong”. I also believe if the circumstances were reversed the Dems would have done exactly the same thing.

ParticipantFaucci was lying. He essentially admitted that. Didn’t want hospital workers to run short on masks.
