ParticipantI think it’s always a mistake to consider long term changes whilevin a short term crisis. Things will return to normalcy. They always do,

ParticipantI think it is always questionable to predict future trends from events happening during a crisis. Working remotely will have some impact. But I wonder how much the “norm” that will become. There are benefits to being in an office both to the employee and employer.

Participant1. Democrats
2. Nothing, because it won’t happen
3. No
4.No
5. Nothing, except if you are in the cruise industry.
Rocky, you are the Chicken Little of this board. Things will settle down and normalcy will return. It may take a little time But this is not the end of the Republic. NYC is still NYC. Broadway, Times Square etc.

ParticipantRocky,
Rasmussen overcounts GOP. Has for years. And I’m not overly impressed by comments about his abilities that are 10-15 years old. But hey, maybe I’m wrong.
As for Schoen and Caddell, both hated Clinton. Why do you think they were the darlings of Fox. Nothing better than to be able to have negative comments from someone of the same party. It’s the same reason Kasich has become the darling of CNN.
You quote Fox as if it’s the Oracle. It’s not It’s opinion journalism. Just as CNN is. It just leans right as opposed to the others that lean left.

ParticipantRasmussen, you must be kidding. He’s quite partisan. And rarely accurate

ParticipantDisagree, Mick. She was the logical and safe choice given the “situation”. He had to pick an African American. I said that a long time ago. Clyburn brought him the nomination. It would have been a slap in the face. Warren has very high negatives. He didn’t need a Hail Mary He’s ahead.
Harris was the obvious choice.

ParticipantViolence is going to get worse. And de Blasio is partly right (even a broken clock is right twice a day) the pandemic is a major factor. Not the only factor, far from it. But a big one. And with schools shut down and high unemployment, you have a lot of 16-24 year old males with too much time on their hands. Not good. Ask any criminologist.
As for the Dems using Antifa to “spread their message, nonsense. Pure and simple. Antifa are at heart anarchists Dems aren’t.
Bureaucratic crackdown? Huh? What do you think he’s going to do is send in the feds. Give me a break

ParticipantSaw Dave Alvin a few years back in a little bar in Sacramento. He’s terrific.

ParticipantRight decision. Wonder if they can play football in spring. (Logistically)

ParticipantActually TC, I think people of color do have more money to spread around in this capitalist economy. Which is why people of color flock to this country as legal immigrants. That doesn’t mean there are not inequities and discrimination to address.

ParticipantFrom a morality and War standpoint, there is a legitimate argument that the firebombings of Dresden, a gorgeous city with dubious military significance, was the more “ atrocious” act. There was a legitimate military reason for using the atomic bomb at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The latter may be being somewhat questionable. But I think TC said it best – but for the bombings the loss of life both amongst the Japanese and of course the United States soldiers would have been significantly worse. Hell a lot of the Japanese leader ship did not want to end the war after Nagasaki. Any type of invasion of Japan would have been a bloodbath of epic proportion‘s.
Further, I just don’t see the same type of remembrances of Pearl Harbor on US TV. Because it just seems that these days all we can do is shit all over ourselves trying to show that almost everything we’ve done has been racist or some other horrific thing. It’s fucking disgusting
Imperial Japan was brutal. The rape of Nanking, the death march – and frankly the way they treated prisoners in general. The Japanese were amongst the most racist/ ethnocentric people on the fucking planet. Right up there with the Germans.
The problem is is we simply cannot distinguish anymore. It as if you say anything bad about Imperial Japan you’re attacking all of their people and all Japanese Americans. Which is absolutely absurd.

ParticipantBiden owes his nomination to Clyburn. I think it’s Harris. Shes the “safest” choice. Telegenic. Good on the attack. . Which is important for VP candidate. Bass has no name recognition. Rice, Benghazi.
Warren has huge negatives Whitmer brings nothing. I don’t think she’s particularly popular in Michigan Correct me if Im wrong, Mick. (Love your comment on the roads , Mick. Michigans roads make California’s look good.)
Booker would be a better choice than all of them. But Biden stupidly boxed himself in.

ParticipantWhat conduct are you referring to vis a vis the defense lawyers? Doing their job? A horrific tragedy. But they are not legally complicit. They will have to live with what happened. Every criminal defense lawyers second worse nightmare. (The first is that the perp goes after them, or their families).
As for the Judge, a horrific ruling. Were he still on the bench, I could see a recall petition. But you can’t criminalize Judges decisions.
The criminal justice system has its flaws. But it’s still better than any other. Criminal law (and the Constitutional issues surrounding it) is by far the most interesting facet of law to me intellectually. My Crim Law prof pushed me hard to go that route. I didn’t have the guts.
It’s a damn tough job.

ParticipantI make no bones about my disdain for Trump. But I find this to be chilling. It’s a tough issue. These are private companies. They may regulate their content as they see fit. But the power they wield is, imo, unprecedented. It’s a major problem. With no easy solution.
