MickParticipantNew York post is, shall we say, not super impressed with Newsom’s performance during the LA fires:
How Gavin Newsom has failed California and set fire to his own political prospects
MickParticipantSentence is “unconditional discharge” meaning the felony conviction is retained, but there is literally no penalty…no jail time, no probation, no community service, no prison, no fine.
It’s essentially a marketing gift to Democrats. It’s a common verdict for misdemeanors, incredibly rare for felonies.
My take is that the Democrat judge realizes that this is a BS case with BS underpinnings that he largely manufactured and took to a Democrat court with a Democrat jury. Trump is appealing the verdict and it will almost certainly be overturned on appeal given that the court largely manufactured the entire case.
MickParticipantCalifornia, to put it mildly, is in a pickle. It has three real, identifiable political problems:
- The current and future presidents don’t give a rip about California. Biden doesn’t care and never cared about the state, except as a source of donations. Trump really only wants to damage the state, they won’t support him. And California’s leadership is allergic to truth and accountability, so they’ll never deal with Trump in any event.
- Democrat leadership doesn’t care about California and takes it for granted, much like they take the working class for granted. California is the most politically reliable Democratic state, it’s rich, it’s a source of donations, it has two of the three major Democratic influence groups (Hollywood and Silicon Valley), but at the same time, it’s sooooo far away from Democratic leaders like Shapiro, Whitmer, Pritzker et al. Pelosi’s lost her luster and power. Harris is a flat-out joke, who lost ground to Trump in most counties. In fact, she can’t really be considered a leader, which leads me to…
- In-state California leadership is DEI-choked. Political progressivism owns California. Look at the video where London Breed challenges candidate Lurie “How many drag queens do you know?” She intended that as a serious question! AYFKM? Newsom is good at one thing and one thing only…getting power. He’s been good at it since he was in high school when he targeted and made his two best friends, the grandson of the Getty’s and Dianne Feinstein’s kid. He was Mayor of SF, the Easiest Job in the World for a lefty Dem pol. But he ran this state into the ground. How do you turn a $97.5 bils+ surplus into a $46.8 billion deficit? Ask Newsom, that’s his signature achievement. Karen Bass…wow. Just…wow. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a major politician that ineffective. The DEILAFD? Completely ineffective. The environmentalists have zero sense of reality or accountability. They genuinely don’t care if California burns or runs out of water as long as trees aren’t cut down and the smelt has an environment – because priority for a smelt always trumps priority for humans.
What the absolute F are we doing here? Why are California voters so GD stupid?
MickParticipantSome interesting numbers:
- $17.6 million. That’s what the LA Mayor Bass cut from the budget, impacting the fire department.
- 100 billion gallons of fresh water. That’s what flows out to the sea to save the GD smelt.
- 7 years. That’s how long Adam Carolla had to wait to have his fire department application approved (see his Congressional testimony)
- 50 years. LA has the same number of firefighters today that they did 50 years ago.
- 60. The number of LA fire department vehicles currently in disrepair and need of service

Adam Carolla GUTS Phony ‘White Privilege’ Narrative Before Congress
MickParticipantNot sure which is worse…Bass’ lack of presence or Newsom’s presence. There’s a significant lack of water to address the fires, and Newsom — and his predecessors — and the Dem legislature have done little to nothing to alleviate the water shortages in this state.

MickParticipantTrump should get a judge to rescind all executive orders issued since the election on the grounds the guy signing them isn’t competent.
Sounds like the way to go. Lots of evidence to support the fact that Biden is non compos mentis.
MickParticipantIt’s longevity. The one that sticks out to me is HW Bush. He led the CIA and had a relatively inauspicious presidency, followed by a quiet post presidency (meaning he didn’t launch the Bush global initiative and seek celebrity…just like his son). I wouldn’t have thought that would score most admired points (and yes, I admired him at times though have revised my view of neocon republicans in recent years.).
Do you think GHWB would have been re-elected if Perot had not run? Clinton got 43.0% of the popular vote, GHWB got 37.4% and Perot got 18.9%. My sense is that he largely drew from Bush, but what do you think?

MickParticipantPJP2 had a really high profile during the Cold War. He did transcend Catholicism in my view.
I would agree with you there.
MickParticipantThere’s some low-watt bulbs in Michigan government…pun intended.
MickParticipantGood points. Let’s also throw in the state override law, in which the state can override local building processes as long as the builder has a substantial percentage of “affordable” housing. In October 2022, California’s Governor (who is desperate to add to the housing stock) the “Affordable Housing and High Roads Jobs Act” which allows affordable housing to bypass the approval process. This is on land that is located in commercial corridors, otherwise typically used for strip malls and parking lots.
Also, the Housing Accountability Act set new standards for “Builder’s Remedy” projects. The law has some pretty interesting elements, including exemption from appeals to the California Coastal Commission. Say goodbye to that pristine coast. Also, they want ADUs now. And fee deferrals for builders, building code amnesty for noncompliant ADUs and other goodies:

Combine that with the recent law that allows up to 10 housing units on existing single family home lots…well, California had to do something to accommodate all the illegal/unauthorized (pick your euphemism) aliens living here.
The bill had an analysis performed that indicated it would produce between 300,000 and 400,000 affordable homes across CA.
MickParticipantIncredible.
Speaking of Thomas Jefferson, his gravestone lists three accomplishments. Being President isn’t one of them:
- Writer of Declaration of Independence
- Founded the University of Virginia
- Drafting the Virginia Act for Establishing Religious Freedom
MickParticipantA law enforcement source identified him as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar. The source said he was carrying an ISIS flag in the truck.
Islam: The Politically Incorrect Truth
46,517 religiously-driven murders since 9/11.
Next year is America’s 250th birthday. Thought I’d just remind everyone that in 1788, when America was barely a country, our sailors were taken and enslaved by the Muslims in the Mediterranean. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams confronted the Muslim ambassador, stating “we weren’t in the Crusades, we weren’t in the Spanish war…why do you attack our ships and enslave our sailors?” The Muslim ambassador, Sidi Haji Abdrahaman replied “because the Qu’ran allows us to do so.” TJ replies “then we will send a great navy to crush your state.
And he did. Barbary coast corsairs from Algiers, Tunis & Tripoli and the Sultanate of Morocco caputred American merchant ships. Between 1 mm and 1.25 mm. Europeans were sold as slaves by Barbary pirates between the 16th and 19th centuries.
The Pasha of Tripoli demanded a $225,000 tribute on Jefferson’s inauguration as president. Jefferson refused, then the Pasha declared war against the USA. In 1802, Congress built a navy. American marines won a series of battles and the First and Second Barbary Coast War (in 1815).
The Tripoli monument is the oldest military monument in the United States, transported from Italy by the U. S. S. Constitution. If you visit the U. S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, you can see it there.
MickParticipantThis says that Newsom had a weird year. I’ll say…
MickParticipantMore than curious is almost 15M voters who voted for Biden chose to sit this one out. 15M? Harris couldn’t even rally enough support from Biden’s base to win? How does that happen?
Did you hear about the year that 7 million American children disappeared? That’s right, 7 million American children. But it wasn’t a scandal. It wasn’t a tragedy. What happened was, the Internal Revenue Service mandated that taxpayers listing dependents had to list both the dependent and their Social Security number. In other words, they had to prove that they had those dependents.
And not too surprisingly, 7 million American dependents vanished.
Why? Occam’s Razor. Simplest explanation. People cheated.
Now let’s take Beeg Dawg’s excellent question. What happened to 15 million votes? Well, a small part of the answer is that some votes are still being counted. The 2020 election had 157,780,079 votes which was an astounding 16.09% increase over the 135,909,066 cast in the 2016 election.
Why was this astounding? Because the American population only increased 2.61% in that time period, from 323.1 mms. to 331.5 mms.
From 2020 to 2024, the U. S. population only increased 1.77%, from 331.5 mms. to 337.4 mms. Yet the total vote decreased from 157,780,079 to 143,044,208, a 9.34% decrease.
How could that possibly be?
Well, let’s look at one other interesting fact. 14 states and DC do not require any form of voter ID, including CA, OR, NV, MN, IL, PA, NY, NJ, MA, VT, ME, NM, HI and DC. Notice anything interesting? Kamala Harris won 13 of the 14, all but NV.
Here are the states where photo ID are required: WI, IN, OH, NC, SC, GA, TN, MS, AK, MO, TX, KS. All won by Donald Trump.
There are three states where ID is required to vote, but not photo ID: ND, WY and AZ. All won by Trump (assuming Trump wins AZ).
Here are the states where ID is requested but not required to vote: WA, ID, MT, UT, CO, OK, IA, SD, MI, NH, CT, RI, FL, AL, LA, WV, KY, VA, DE. A mix of mainly Trump wins and a few Harris wins.
Here’s the map, see for yourself. Voting in the 2024 election? You’ll need an ID in these states.
MickParticipantEmerson national poll, 1,000 likely voters shows KHarris’ lead down to 1% at 49% to 48%. At this point in 2020, Biden’s lead was 4% in the same poll…
