I’m confused. I thought the bill passed by the house raised the debt limit by an additional $1.5 trillion. Doesn’t the increase, honor all debt accumulated to date?  Can you explain how that is economic terrorism?

I think the bill restricts/rolls back future spending and cancels unspent appropriations from the past. Am I wrong?  Or are you again posting mindless talking points?

You can of course disagree with an effort to reduce spending in the future. You could argue that tax increases are the preferred approach for limiting deficit spending going forward.  (But you of course appreciate that neither side has the votes to change fiscal policy through regular order.) But arguing that a policy choice going forward is economic terrorism…come on man. You’re all in on the notion that past policy choices are sacrosanct, never ever to be reviewed. Let’s go back to the good old days of separate but equal?

At some point one would hope voters would wake up.

They are. You cite Fisher Investments. And it may be “narrow” in terms of the number of voters, but that is less true of the tax base.

Thank goodness that states must balance their budgets annually. As they sew, so shall they reap…or fail to reap in this case.

Isn’t their an old saying about running out of other people’s money?

Mick, I thought the thread was about the IRS whistleblower’s reporting to Congress and his recent removal from the Biden tax issues assignment. Sorry for the thread drift if I was confused.

Here is the letter from the whistleblower’s attorney. Short and sweet.

Click to access IRS-WB-Letter-5-15-23.pdf

(Sorry, the letter is two pages. For some reason I can only link page one.)

They’ve “informed” congressional leadership and senior members of the administrative state broadly.

If the law is as straightforward as suggested by the attorneys, I’m hard pressed to advance a straw man to explain the redeployment decision.

The ghost of Elliot Richardson is missing in action. Why wouldn’t IRS management tell the DoJ to take a long walk on a short pier and resign?  Who would rely on the, “I was ordered to do it” defense?

Remind me, when did Miranda Devine win that Pulitzer?  I mean Blinken became SoS, Sullivan a Whitehouse national security assignment…surely her fact based investigative journalism has been recognized by her industry?

Right you are Mick…

And now for something completely different, anyone have any idea how Trump got CNN to give him total control over the selection of the in person attendees at the Town Hall?  CNN was dead before they started as respects their normal audience. And their moderator, who I think they were hoping to “launch” as a prime time host, was DOA.

And Trump…he even shocked some of his partisans with his behavior. Such a welcome distraction from the lying stiffs who take themselves seriously.

In light of the goings on in the last 30 months and the definition of fascism, we need to insure there is no confusion. Who is the “fascist prick” you refer to?  Or are you back to lazy ideological dogma as a political narrative?

I agree John. Trump has some basic issues to deal with.
1)  setting up a first class ballot harvesting operation in at least 30-35 states.
2)  Achieving a media breakthrough. Today’s Wa Post summary covered Santos, the civil decision in NY and how it impacts his electability, easing but persistent inflation, Tucker Carlson and his contract, the Whitehouse banning unprofessional reporters and Liz Cheney’s ad campaign. No mention of Biden grift and limited mention of the border. No mention of the election fraud with the 51 intel experts.
3) Taking necessary steps to achieve governing majorities in the House & Senate.
4)  Assembling enough professionals to immediately implement a purge of the bureaucracy.

Tough tasks to be sure. No guarantees. But Christie, DeSantis and the others are simply distractions that are used by the media to dissemble.

Polls traditionally don’t properly weight input from ballot harvesters and local signature verification workers?

Rogpodge, “which causes the Fed to (belatedly) raise rates, which caused bank failures.”

Pardon me, I am obsessed with detail. The rate increases over the last year have not caused “bank failures”.  Piss poor, self interested managements and incompetent regulators are to blame.

Any student who has completed a basic money and capital markets course is aware of duration and its implications for portfolio management. The Fed created conditions that offered an opportunity to get rich through the abandonment of sound principles, but they didn’t make the piss poor decisions. Many managers elected not to exploit Fed largess for short term gain.

And let’s keep in mind that the regulators knew of the balance sheet problems 18 months ago, before the Fed commenced the tightening cycle. They did nothing. And now the Fed is between the rock and the hard place. In the last three weeks they have unwound five months of work to shrink their balance sheet.

The administration will try to blame the Fed for a recession. No reason to blame the incompetent regulators they pay with our money.

Perhaps, but the number of eyeballs sure isn’t. And that’s what makes this interesting to see as it plays out. Remaining time on the present contracts may differ but they are using the same attorney so that’s not a variable when comparing buy outs.

I’m not at all certain if the settlements and the circumstances associated there with will become public knowledge, but it will be fascinating to see the relative values.

One guy is the host for the number one news show on cable tv. The other, a disagreeable problem employee who is a misogynist and serves a minuscule audience.
Not me. I want that senile p.o.s. to run again because he can’t hide in his basement this time around. Trump will carve him up.
Welllllllll…the DNC has decided there will be no presidential debates during the primary cycle. The basement strategy is in place. Robert Kennedy is bitching.

One has to ask, what happens if Biden elects not to run?  Could be the investigations, could be health related, could be overwhelming policy problems or some other reasons?  How do they advance one of the other incompetents in the 11th hour?  Harris, Newsome, Pritzker, Sanders, Warren, Obama all screaming me, me, me?

I’d love to see it. And John, my guess, it’s at least 50/50 Biden will not debate the republican’s nominee. How do you put the genie back in the bottle after the letter from the 51 “intel pros”?  After every utterance, Trump would ask whether that too is a lie with the sole intention of deceiving voters.
