ParticipantListened to her press conference. This woman should be in Hollywood, because the performance was Oscar worthy.
Not surprising to this dog, she laid her problems on racism and the good old boy network.

ParticipantGood read, I share many of the same views.
“The inability of progressives, particularly in the Portland metro area, to deal with the nitty-gritty of governing and to get something done is just staggering,” Representative Earl Blumenauer, a Democrat who has been representing and championing Portland for more than half a century, told me. “People are much more interested in ideology than in actual results.”
Couple of thoughts – I can’t believe I agree with Blumenauer on anything, but he is 100% on the mark. After 40 years of Dems control, locals still want to blame every conservative for the current problems. Mental health issues – Reagan’s fault. Border crisis- Donald Trump. Somehow, local problems are caused by conservatives on the national stage.
Portland could be wonderful, world class city, except it is cursed with a never ending stream of ineffective leaders. A local company was paid almost $30M to clean up homeless encampments, while at the same time Multnomah County handed out 6500 tents and over 25k blue tarps. Local activists claim there have been over 12,000 homeless that have been moved off the street. Never mind the highest estimate of homeless was 8000 and at most there are only 1000 housing units available for them.
Some of the locals are starting to get the idea. Voting for ideologues with a vision is not a road map to utopia.

ParticipantNo mention of Clinton or Obama? Oh, of course not. My bad.

ParticipantFirst job drawing a real paycheck was at Sandy’s (now Carl’s Junior, I believe.)Baled hay and other custom farm contract work for four years. Worked for UPS loading delivery trucks. Paid over $8/hour in 1973. Great job, other than a 5:00 AM start time. Worked in a print shop, doing a variety of tasks.

ParticipantSounds like the tenant has a legit shot with this case. Maybe this will open the door for other similar lawsuits.

Two of the big issues contributing to the collapse of our culture are the decimation of our education system and the erosion of our society’s connection to a spiritual identity. You ask how a community could vote the way Portland residents have, and ultimately the value systems have eroded because we have failed to model them and younger generations have not embraced them.
My mom has a very definite take on precisely when the decimation of the education occurred. It was when “Welcome Back Kotter” aired . It made it acceptable to both backtalk teachers and not treat school seriously.
Respectfully disagree with your mom. My take is the decline in our education system started with the Dept of Education, formed in 1980.
Just one man’s opinion….

ParticipantSchmidt got smoked in yesterdays primary election by 12 points. A big chunk of his funding came from Working Families Party, headquartered in New York. Another large contributor is the Drug Policy Alliance.
“The Drug Policy Alliance (DPA) is a New York City–based nonprofit organization that seeks to advance policies that “reduce the harms of both drug use and drug prohibition, and to promote the sovereignty of individuals over their minds and bodies”. The organization prioritizes reducing the role of criminalization in drug policy, advocating for the legal regulation of marijuana, and promoting health-centered drug policies”- Willamette Weekly.
George Soros is a contributor to both PACs.
Local media could no longer cover for Schmidt. The results of his progressive policies are out there for all to see. Record levels homicides, robberies, auto thefts, vandalism and assault didn’t leave much to run on as incumbent.
It will take years for Portland to recover.

ParticipantPortland citizens are beyond weary with the nonsense presented as progessivism. Four years ago, Mike Schmidt was all about not prosecuting property crimes. Well, car thefts suddenly spiked to over 1000 cars per month. Break ins, flash mob theft and petty theft left business owners no option – move or close your doors. Often times there was no choice- businesses could not get insurance, or it was so expensive it became unaffordable.
Today, DA Schmidt is all about law and order, getting behind new police initiatives to curb auto theft, reduce drug use and prosecuting flash mob gang robberies as organized crime. Liberals are slowly starting to realize that soft on crime does not reduce recidivism, it encourages it.

ParticipantGotta wonder what metric the WH uses in determining how well the economy is doing.
Unemployment Numbers are more fraudulent than meaningful.
Consumer prices are insanely volatile. Energy prices are out of control, thanks mainly to increased Green Initiatives. (Energy Taxes)
Most of the GDP increase from Q1 2020 is wiped out by inflation.
Consumer Spending is financed by credit card debt.
Budgeted deficit spending at all time high.Aside from denial or delusion, how could any one look at our current economic policy and not see a train wreck of epic proportion. 🙂

ParticipantIs there a book on Joe being the candidate? I have doubts Joe will win the nomination.

ParticipantHeard a sound bite of Bernsteins interview this afternoon.
Pretty basic question. “Why borrow instead of printing more money?” Good lord, he stumbled over the answer like Biden going up the steps to Air Force One.

Participant
End of the article says they already moved HQ to Austin in 2020. Of course I have no idea what that means. A corporate HQ for a massive company can be 10 people. I wonder how many employees this pulls out of California?
6500 in Redwood City, about 13.5% of the city’s workforce. This article goes back a couple of years, but I can’t see where much has changed. https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/west/companies-are-rapidly-leaving-california-study-finds-heres-where-they-are-going/
This is a good source for tracking corporate departures. https://californiapolicycenter.org/the-california-book-of-exodus/
CEO of Belong, a residential property management company on why its relocating to Miami -“Belong CEO, Ale Resnik, emphasized the cultural fit between Miami and Belong: “Miami represents a glimpse at a possible future of the USA. One that’s multicultural, more pragmatic, and less ideological. This is an ecosystem where consumer tech can blossom.”
More pragmatic and less ideological- sadly wonder if the west cost will ever be described this way. Not in my lifetime, I’m sure.

ParticipantWell, finally someone calling out a media outlet for its overt bias. (At least someone not named Trump and someone that is definitely not a MAGA guy.)
What is amazing to me (and proof MSM is in the liberal bag) is the absolute silence about Schiff. Mr. Irrefutable Proof that Trump colluded with the Russians. The guy is running for US Senate, and not a peep from MSM about his lynch mob mentality in going after Trump.
I just shake my head.
April 8, 2024 at 3:27 pm in reply to: USA Today claims Biden has clamped down on illegal immigration #8289Beeg_Dawg
ParticipantTalk about putting lipstick on a pig.
“The Biden administration has struggled to draw attention to its significant immigration successes, instead contending with the ever-present pressures at the border. Changing the national narrative may be its most difficult challenge to confront.”
https://www.migrationpolicy.org/article/biden-three-immigration-record
Reading bios for the Board of Trustees, there is good reason to think a little bias might be in play.
