The election is not only a turning point for the US but for the world IMHO.  If Biden wins because of Big Tech and Big Media then the world will follow. The first amendment will quickly go down the drain because these elites are showing right now how much they despise it.

Every time I turn the TV on I want to throw a brick at it within a half hour.   I’m beginning to think that I won’t mind if Trump loses for his and his family’s safety. It is very impressive to me that he has survived to this point given the assault leveled at him the last 4 years.

Senator Hirono’s life story is interesting and somehow she boot strapped her way up the ladder.  Good for her.  But what makes Hawaii tick to vote her in?  I think it’s because in Hawaii,  the politics are like Portland, Seattle and California and more and more New England.  Hirono is mainstream in Hawaii and extreme to most of the mainland.  The Republican party is extinct and there are no checks and balances to concern her or Tulsi.  Food for thought about a one party country.

    Here is one article.
Something smells here. Since when does Paul Pelosi pay retail for an investment position? Political cover demands a material discount. My bet, the disclosure about deal terms is incomplete.
She has no incentive to protect herself from risk based on the drift to a corrupt government that we have seen over the last several years.  You can get away with just about anything now if you are a member of a protected class. Or a looter.   I assume Pelosi has been doing this crap for a long long time.

I also assume some Republicans are just as bad.

And her endorsement for mayor from the Portland Mercury.  Crazy place.

The Portland Mercury, in their endorsement: “Perhaps most impressive are Iannarone’s extensive policy proposals for Portland—detailed, data-informed documents informed by area experts and promising straightforward improvements to city programs. …Iannarone’s proposals give us a peek at what kind of intention and research would go into her leadership decisions.“

I offer this answer to what’s going on in Portland and beyond.

Wealthy left wing donors across the country are more interested in your local school board than the residents.   The curriculum gets into the school and voila!   Little leftist are trained to become angry big ones.   On the next level up you get leftist prosecutors who refuse to prosecute whole classes of crime and actually nullify laws they don’t like.  Once the leftists catch on, the fun starts in the street.  They know they can operate with impunity.  And are applauded for their courage for looting and mayhem.

They are hoping Trump loses so it will all go away. If he wins, there will be an incredible number of prosecutions and dismissals and there should be.
Run out the clock?

Why bother when you can simply destroy them or lose them?   Look at what Mueller’s team did with the phones.   This isn’t Obama’s version of Socialism for kids anymore.  They do what they want now.

Fascism = socialism with a dash of open markets which are centrally managed.

I’m not sure if I have my terminology right but Big Government is evil as we have seen the last 4 or more years.  It’s sleazy little brother is leftism.  Maybe west coast leftism and academic leftism are more accurate.  Our leftism also has a weird ally with Big Business. Tarp, Obamacare, Bailouts galore.  For the moment.

Whatever you want to call it, brain dead rejection of basic economics and a hardline anti- market approach get’s you Venezuela.  So I prefer “the road to serfdom” to Fascism.

    Question on my  fictional.

Does the last scene take place where GR and I on a split screen with GR hailing the new administration and me swearing at the treasonous duo?  Or does it end with Trump figuring he has nothing to lose and authorizes release of all of the secret documents pertaining to the coup conspirators only to find out they have been destroyed a week before the election?
I expect Biden to win, and rather hope for a blowout, as this is not a good year for an election controversy.

I too give the edge to Biden. Could be a blowout but I’ll vote for Trump.  You can be an obnoxious AHole and be highly effective at the same time.  Happens a lot.  Trump has made some mistakes.  Mostly venal.  Trump had a chance to seal the deal Monday but blew it.

I assume that soon after the projected Biden win there will be a heal the wounds come together made for TV extravaganza for the new administration where we all breathe a sigh of relief that the riots and looting are over and Covid was really not that bad after all.  Like magic, masks can come off and businesses can restart.     You’ll see Hollywood glitterati, Silicon Valley  titans,  Bernie and AOC of course, BLM representatives, Antifa friends, professors, Al Sharpton, Supreme Court  Justices in attendance. Maybe the smiling Chinese ambassador to the US.  But most of all the Obamas and Biden in a show of unity and the hand picked successor in waiting. Harris. Trump will be erased but never forgiven.

At that moment I will look at Obama and Biden and think to myself, “you sons of bitches got away with a coup attempt. Fractured the country with a Russia Hoax, Mueller report ending in a bogus impeachment.  Everyone that voted for Biden becomes complicit.”

Good plot for a fiction novel ya think?

Last night there were 3 people on that stage one of which part of a cabal that tried to overthrow a duly elected President.  He was a lead participant in a coup.   The evidence is pretty damning now and probably half the country does not know it.  Biden is within reach of the Presidency and he is smiling at all of the suckers who will vote for him. He knows he’s going to get away with it.   The failure of Chris Wallace to pin him down was astounding.   This was his moment in history and he whiffed.  Biden was prepared for it I’m sure. It didn’t get off the ground.  Half of the viewers want to know what happened from the horse’s mouth.  Nothing.  Trump whiffed badly too.

It now appears that there is an even chance that like Lois Lerner and all of the Clinton people,  not one person will be held accountable for the Russia hoax,  Mueller Report, Fisa abuse, and impeachment.  Except General Mike Flynn.
Well, to call them ‘thoughts’ is generous. When the other guy is supposed to have uninterrupted time, you give him uninterrupted time. Even kindergartners understand that. Then you have these long garrulous twisted sentences, endless self interruptions, etc. The worst that can be said for Biden was that a couple of times he took the bait. But mostly he handled the provocations with quite a bit of poise and composure. He did well.
Trump was unprepared other than to come out swinging.  It was not pretty watching him carpet bomb over-smiling, smirking Joe.  Trump also looked bad in the first debate against HRC too.   Does anyone remember that debate?

Here’s my takeaway.  I vote for what’s in my own best interest first and I really don’t care about the vessel that delivers it to me.  I assume Biden is a cypher.  A daft place-holder.  He had a very low bar to hit and he made the cut and maybe even picked up some votes.  Biden made his case to voters on policy matters and I tried to listen very carefully. What I heard says to me he is not close to what I want.  It is inconceivable for me to vote for his plan.  And at least for last night, Trump failed to protect my interests.  The dust has cleared, nothing on policy has changed, and fearing for the worst I have to adjust.

I wonder how many Biden supporters have a put on him?  Think about that.

I watched the famous movie Chinatown last week and what a movie that was about 1937 California, water policy, population growth, and corruption in the political process and law enforcement.  Nothing has really changed for the better as far as I know but the movie, made in 1975 was so spot on and how everything has gone sideways.  A truly great movie.

“If you can’t bring the water to Los Angeles, bring Los Angeles to the water.”  And everything that followed.

in reply to: Trumps Taxes (or lack thereof) #2833
    AvatarNeodymium60

The unspoken lie in the NYT article is that Trump actually does his own returns and cheats.  He’s no different from any other wealthy taxpayer.  The returns are done by big public accounting firms on a continuous basis.  Those firms are bound by law to be truthful and they have no incentive to cheat.  The cost of compliance is enormous even if they zero out the return.

The people from the NYT who wrote the article would have the reader believe that they have the personnel who know tax law. Current and prior.  And financial statements. Information returns.   There are 80,000 pages of tax law including Code, Regs,  Rev Rulings, USTCs, Rev Procs, TCMs, on and on.  The same holds for New York tax law and any other jurisdiction where there is a reporting obligation.  And foreign if necessary.

In order to further understand the complexity of returns for special taxpayers like Trump, you would also have to have some understanding of GAAP.  Derivatives, hedging, executive disclosure…you name it.

And not only would you have to know current law which changes daily you’d have to know prior law going back to the Clinton Administration.

All taxpayers have the right and obligation to minimize their legal tax obligations under Federal and State Laws.  There is nothing wrong with that.  The Times will never say that.  The assumption is always under-payment be it individual or corporate.  And illegality.

There is no point in reading the article because it’s meaningless.
