A couple things: oil and gas affects everything eventually, because goods have to be transported; and food prices remain a pain.

The entire Euro zone is spending less on food.
Do you think it’s going to be more spending on processed food / fast food? One of the worst things about inflation over the last three years is that it costs a lot more to cook at home. For the long-term health of the country, more people cooking at home would be a good thing. If we’re substituting cheap, processed food for home cooked meals, inflation will also result in more obesity and metabolic disease.

ParticipantI would worry less about the lawyers who can’t do math, and more about the doctors at the American Medical Association who fed that statistic to the lawyers, then the law clerks, and ultimately to Justice Jackson. The fact that doctors can no longer do math, and are willing to peddle garbage statistics as the basis for policy should be the most concerning part of this entire affair.
It’s incredible how much of medicine is based on a single study with a small sample size.

(Yeah, I know, it’s hypocritical to trash the AMA, then cite the JAMA).

ParticipantStudent loan forgiveness requires Congressional approval, and state anti-discrimination laws can’t be used to compel speech.

ParticipantWe watched “The Battle of Algiers” for History CIV. Great movie. Apparently the French, having adopted American culture, want a sequel.

ParticipantLots of speculation that’s a troll account. The NY Times tweet and others aren’t much better, though.

Not sure how much the City tried to defend the tests. But just because you got a degree doesn’t mean you know things (or should be teaching).

ParticipantKeep in mind that inflation is still happening, just at a slower pace.

Inflation is a regressive, compounding, permanent tax on the poor. This is the most important economic policy lesson we can teach the younger generations.

ParticipantThe hotel REITs turning those hotels over to lenders halfway through the mortgage terms are the most shocking to me. I assume after the tax consequences, it was still financially advantageous to abandon the properties. Parc 55 and Club Quarters are really nice hotels. Park Hotels and Resorts stock went up 2% after the announcement (but is down on interest rate concerns).
