The politicization of the issue has made it all but impossible to get straightforward information from the media. Trump is largely responsible for this – it is almost impossible for a President confronting a natural disaster not to emerge with additional prestige, but somehow he managed – but God knows the opposition did its best as well. Whether it’s the origins of the virus, or patterns of vaccination, you’re not going to get a neutral report.

That said, it seems to me madness not to receive the vaccination, and utterly irrational. Why the government is not aggressively pushing a vaccination passport protocol, which would provide a powerful inducement to vaccinate, baffles me.

I wouldn't give you two cents for all your fancy rules if, behind them, they didn't have a little bit of plain, ordinary, everyday kindness - yeah, and a little looking out for the other fella, too.

    Absolutely absurd proposal.

But it is interesting to me that there is growing recognition that there are real problems with the way we define our tax base.

The G League is another challenge.

I don’t like schools paying players. It destroys the academic model, and that would not be good.

I do think the kids should be able to take money from whomever wants to give it to them, except the school and boosters.

I doubt very much you have a racist bone in your body, Mick.

However, the people giving the course are toxically racist.

Worth repeating, that Elizabeth (That’s-Not-Funny) Warren’s plans for a wealth surtax, and my own thoughts for changing the base of the annual income tax, are poles apart.  One major difference is that costs of compliance would drop dramatically. No need for all that additional enforcement on the income tax.

Her plans have zero chance. They might start some dialog, though.

Rare post for me, but my notion is the REPLACEMENT of the income tax with a wealth-based annual tax. A wealth surtax simply won’t work. There’s no middle and lower class tax break, there’s no real shift to the ultra-progressivism of a wealth tax, and – above all – there is no simplification of our overly complex reporting and enforcement system.

Still, I am glad to see a dialog begin. Even if it’s a dumb one.

Delighted to hear Rocky is out of the hospital.

I had a really mild case. Even so, the cough and a general sense of debilitation linger on.  It’s not all that much different than other viruses I have had. But I don’t think I’ll be fully recovered for another few days,

    Thoughts and prayers.

FWIW,  my wife tested positive ten days ago on Tuesday, me on Thursday a week. This was amazing as we have been beyond cautious.

But we were lucky. Her case has been mild, and she clears tomorrow. Mine is completely asymptomatic. I’m isolating until Sunday, but I’m already beyond it.

Though God knows I’ve had my disagreements with Rocky, may he pull through this.

I’ll pass on the wisdom of the immigration policy.

But if the Democrats believe that this segment are destined to be Democratic voters, they’re delusional. Immigrants of this type are far more likely to appreciate the traditional institutions of this country,

It’s only in the second, third, and fourth generations that they become complacent enough to be cynical.

Oh, cut it out. We’ve always had political scandals, some large, some small. We do our best with them.

But a sitting President who comes up with a non-existent conspiracy theory to inspire a mob to shut down the core Electoral College process?  Off the charts.

And yeah, yeah, they’re all alike, what difference does it make? I’ve got the standard response memorized. Sometime when you were seven, you realized the phrase ‘you’re another’ was an all-purpose rejoinder. It’s served you well since then.

But most of us are older than seven. Trump put himself in a class by himself today. All the adoration you’ve bestowed on your little tin god isn’t going to change the fact.

Same playbook that tried to pin the BLM violence on right wing provocateurs. Close to a no sale.

That facial recognition software will come in awfully useful. No masks – not exactly the antifa M.O.

You’re not the one I described as True Believer.

However, you don’t get it. What happened today was an assault on the basic institution of the Constitution. It was truly shocking.  There is also the fact that TWO MONTHS of frenzied litigation, investigation, DOJ inquiries,  has produced absolutely nothing. THERE IS NO FRAUD. There is only Trump and his endless blathering.

You think the people who are appalled by Trump condone the nonsense in Portland? Or Hong Kong? Of course not. I’ve been writing about that (Portland and Seattle) for months.

But what people like me do realize is that this has become truly dangerous precedent. Trump, unwilling to leave office, has concocted a conspiracy and a rationale, and used the office to sell it, despite the utter absence of evidence.  And he conned an army of suckers into a major violation of law and decorum to support it. Dear God.

I wonder how the people who oppose facial recognition software feel now – because I’d be using it to identify everyone who broke into the capitol to prosecute.

And I’m thinking major prison term for Trump. You don’t set rioters lose on the US Senate and walk away from it. He is a traitor, and he should be punished accordingly.

Please. Covid made for an unusual election, but it came off stunningly.

The only irregularity is the utter irresponsibility of one Donald Trump.

He’s a one man banana republic.

No believer like a True Believer.

I mentioned reading the actual declarations. They were patheticlly, ludicrously inadequate. 59 or 62 or whatever lawsuits, and nothing. Rejected by courts of every political leaning, Barr – Trump’s AG –  at the Justice Department, and all for the same reason. There ain’t no fraud.

Not that that has stopped Trump.

    Or the True Believers.

P.S. Don’t believe elections are conducted by volunteers? Try it out. Contact your local registrar. You can go down to some precinct and check people in, or open mail in ballots. The grunt work is done by ordinary people who see it as a civic duty.
