Pretty serious stuff and pretty impressive presentation.

The GOP would have done well to treat Donald Trump as radioactive after 1/6. There was simply nothing to be said in defense or mitigation.

I wouldn't give you two cents for all your fancy rules if, behind them, they didn't have a little bit of plain, ordinary, everyday kindness - yeah, and a little looking out for the other fella, too.

FWIW, with little fuss or fanfare, the Post fired Sonmez today.

‘Insurrection’ is the usual hyperbole, in the same way that the opposition to Trump immediately after the election called itself ‘The Resistance’, shamelessly adopting the name of a group of individuals who took real risks and exhibited real courage.

Which does not change the fact that Donald Trump committed palpable treason on January 6th, and should be made to pay for it. The numbers may not be all that large, but if that mob had managed to take a hostage – Nancy Pelosi, or someone – and this was a near thing – we would have been witness to a real banana republic disgrace.

The sooner Trump is identified as the Aaron Burr successor he actually is, a traitor in the most basic definition of the word, the better off the GOP will be. (The hell with all this RINO nonsense – Trump is the poseur).

As noted above, Trump is the Democrat’s best chance for 2024. Precisely the reason, in my cynical opinion, why the Biden Administration has not gone forward with a conventional prosecution.

This should have been ordinary grand jury stuff on day 2. There was no reason to politicize this with a Congressional committee.

My own cynical view is that it didn’t happen because Trump is far more useful to Biden than he is to the GOP, for which he remains a continual embarrassment. Without Trump, the absurdities of the Democrats are fully visible.

Biden hopes to run in 2024 against Trump on another lesser evil ticket. His best chance.

You have to feel for the parents here. I get the impression that the causes of her suicidal spiral were actually rather slight. A word from the parent to whom she was closer might have changed everything.

This is one of those situations where privilege gets in the way.

Reading the account, it seems the offense was throwing anything rather than some ethnic insult.

I thought (from the excerpts I saw) that he did very well on the stand.

The low road taken by the prosecution is also very unimpressive. You don’t comment on a defendant’s silence – ever. It’s pretty well-established black letter law.

So his chances seem very good to me.

Unfortunately, the credibility of the New York Times on this kind of story is non-existent.

Such a beautiful story, with nary a glitch or gap, and, as always, completely unsourced.

I was one of the earliest skeptics about Holmes, back when there were plenty of True Believers. The company just didn’t make sense in terms of start ups with which I was familiar. That even caused some family friction.

That said, this whole process is way, way over the top. The circus has come to town. We have found our Witch. I wouldn’t have brought the case in the first place – just not that much societal gain – and would definitely have let her plead out.

It’s as if all the people that bought into what were clearly some very dubious claims now have to vindicate themselves by pummeling her.

I think you’d have a point if the product ever got out the door. But, as I understand it, it did not.

I’m voting to recall him, and I don’t know anyone who isn’t.

Nonetheless, I’m expecting him to survive for the prosaic reason that there is no really credible candidate to replace him, of the type of Schwarzenegger back in 2006.

I have no love at allĀ  for Elizabeth Holmes, but ex-white collar prosecutor me thinks that this prosecution is a waste of time. Most of the investors were professionals who had the resources to do their own due diligence. Holmes herself has been so completely destroyed that applying the criminal sanction seems coals to Newcastle.

BTW, I know Ed Davila, the trial judge in the matter, and referenced for him on his appointment to the bench. He’ll give her a fair trial.

Sorry, but I don’t see immunization passports as any more offensive than requiring vaccination proof before enrolling a child in public school. What IS annoying is mask mandates in lieu of passports, which is what the health fascists in Santa Clara County and Oregon have done.

Covid issues have been politicized to a ridiculous degree. Trump is the major culprit, but God knows his mindless opposition have played their part.
