rjnwmillParticipantThank you for posting this. It brings to mind the democrats commitment to gold star families. Was it 2016 they had a gold star father address their convention? Wasn’t he offended by something that Trump said on the campaign trail?
The fact that the media hasn’t covered the story is somewhat surprising to me. With the ongoing censorship research being conducted by the Biden administration and the litigation underway with the injunction issued by the judge, this seems a bit too obvious, no?

rjnwmillParticipantIndeed. However this go around they drew a very sympathetic judge and a DC jury pool.
The trial court is largely significant as a political/timing tool only.
We’ve reached the point where our politics need a doomsday clock.

rjnwmillParticipantMick, the Atlanta Fed publishes GDP estimates on this site. Today they published their first estimate for Q3 2023; 3.5%. The estimate is updated periodically as additional economic data is available.

rjnwmillParticipantI appreciate the fact that this is the first piece in a series. Nonetheless, the irony brought a smile to my face.
I think his premise is plausible. Politics and media focus on problems rather than solutions. Problems can be used as wedge issues to build a coalition and there are no measurable results. A sticky problem associated with proposed solutions. See Newsom and homelessness.
The author here identified problems with our current structures but teases the reader to continue reading his work to get his recommendations as to solutions. 😂

rjnwmillParticipantAmazing work by a 17 year old. I conclude with some certainty that my admission to Stanford was a monumental mistake! Some background on the youngster’s work on this story:

rjnwmillParticipantAnother shoe drops.
Justice Thomas wrote a very strong descent in the AL redistricting case. Perhaps we’re reaching the point where we will be guided by principle and reject “solutions” that simply turn a 180 on unconstitutional practices. Policy is wrong headed no matter who suffers damages.

rjnwmillParticipantThanks Mick. And to your point of “screwing things up”…I give you Sacramento.
This is unconstitutional, unquestionably. Yet they use this stuff to divide the electorate hoping for 50.1% Thanks for nothing.

rjnwmillParticipantReminds me of something my father-in-law shared with me 50 years ago;
“Credibility is like virginity. You can only lose it once.”
There aren’t any virgins in DC…or Sacramento…

rjnwmillParticipant”She hit all the talking points about inequality, but missed completely that 50 years of affirmative action has not eliminated racism or provided more and better opportunities for minorities.”
I beg to differ. Over 60 years there has been an enormous move towards a color blind society. I agree with you in that affirmative action has contributed little to that movement. Unfortunately the stoking of racist narratives by political hacks is counterproductive as hell.
And how do I know, I trust my eyes. When I go out to dinner, I see a well integrated group of diners. Well dressed, excusing the foolishness of modern “style”. Not so much 50 years ago.

rjnwmillParticipantI’m hard pressed to understand how he runs from his California record…reparations, homelessness, out migration, poorly performing schools, the SF decline, Biden’s record of criminality and his own silence? What’s he got…the weather’s nice?

rjnwmillParticipantThanks for sharing. It becomes clear the hull didn’t fail. Instead a flawed process driven by flawed people led to a predictable result.
Unfortunately it reminded me of our politics, our banking system, our public schools, our Afghan withdrawal, our Southern border, our criminal justice system, our mountain of public debt…

rjnwmillParticipantDoes the US have a race problem? I don’t think so.
As we saw with the extension of the Voting Rights Act and the subsequent litigation and now affirmative action, legislators are lazy and therefore counterproductive types. They passed the extension using 60 year old data. Things had changed.
There is real inequality. But in my view it is socioeconomic not race based. It is failing public schools and ineffective family environments that are causing the inequality across all racial demographics.
Politicians would rather address problems from the past. Certainly not problems that are currently worsening and that impact political alliances.
I think we’re becoming India with an onerous cast system. Income inequality is impacting the middle out and the bottom up. See bidenomics results. These clowns have failed to deliver big time. They’ve reversed the Trump successes where our lower casts actually enjoyed increasing real incomes…for a couple years.
I’m so very sick of the MISINFORMATION that comes out of DC. And they’re busting their asses to insure it is all the public sees.

rjnwmillParticipant“I’d be interested in that Singapore based purveyor too.”
The vendor is TWG Tea. I’ve been pleased with their products. Here is their web site:
Ps: I purchased a Breville Tea unit that allows you to set the brew time in 30 second increments and the water temperature in 5 degree increments. I’m dangerous now!! 😉

rjnwmillParticipantI don’t travel much anymore. Nonetheless it is interesting to see the regional shifting in the list. Five years ago, the list included a number of restaurants located in Capetown. I traveled to see the daughter’s in laws and visited The Test Kitchen. (Since closed. The chef wanted to go in a different direction.). It was remarkable. One option with the tasting menu was a tea paring served at room temperature. I became a tea fanatic and still trade with their Singapore based purveyor.
I too would be interested to hear first hand input about any of the restaurants on the list.
